Organic Glossary

  • Certified organic agriculture: Agricultural systems and products that are managed and produced in accordance with specific standards or technical regulations and that have been inspected and approved by a certification body (The FAO Glossary on Organic Agriculture)
  • Conversion period: The transition from non-organic to organic farming within a given period of time, during which the provisions concerning organic production have been applied. (EU Reg. № 834/2007)
  • Organic certification: The procedure by which officially recognised certification bodies, provide written or equivalent assurance that foods or food control systems conform to requirements. (The FAO Glossary on Organic Agriculture)
  • Organic land: A land area exclusively dedicated to organic agriculture and managed by applying organic agricultural methods. (The FAO Glossary on Organic Agriculture)
  • Organic production: Аn overall system of farm management and food production that combines best environmental practices, a high level of biodiversity, the preservation of natural resources, the application of high animal welfare standards and a production method in line with the preference of certain consumers for products produced using natural substances and processes.   • Organic products:  The products of the sustainable agriculture and/or food industry that are produced as a result of the certified organic production, when at all stages of it the natural substances and processes are applied in order to preserve natural resources, environmental protection, restoration of soil fertility, biodiversity increasing, application of high animal welfare standards, production of high quality products, rural development and facilitation of harmony between human and nature. During organic production it is prohibited to use chemically synthesized inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, technological additives), ionizing radiation, regulators and stimulators of growth, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), antibiotics as a prophylactic measure, hormones, preservatives, artificial flavorings and colorants.
  • Operator: The natural or legal persons responsible for ensuring that the requirements of this Regulation are met within the organic business under their control. (EU Reg. № 834/2007)
