281 participants from 21 regions of Ukraine and Crimea took part at the event, as well as representatives of the organic sector of Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, Canada, Republic of Belarus and the USA.

Speakers at the conference covered different topics in their presentations related to development of the organic market in Ukraine, mechanisms of possible state support for the sector, peculiarities of communication and positioning of organic products, as well as experience of other countries in development of the organic market, in particular that of Swiss Confederation and France.

Besides, the participants had an opportunity of fast business introduction in the format "organic business card”. A representative of the Swiss company GRANOSA AG Franz Hruza, export manager of the Czech importer and producer of organic products PRO-BIO Lucie Drbohlavova and other visitors spoke about possibilities for international cooperation between Ukrainian companies and foreign partners. Foreign participants of the conference showed much interest in buying Ukrainian organic products.

In addition, the podium discussion related to the Law of Ukraine “On organic production and circulation of organic agricultural products and raw materials” was carried out.

Participants in the conference welcomed the fact that the law on organic agriculture was passed this year in Ukraine, considering it to be the first step in state recognition and support for organic agriculture in Ukraine. In their final declaration they called for:

  • creation of clear and administratively undemanding national rules for inspection and certification in organic agriculture, which are the basic condition for development of the market,
  • immediate start to preparation of detailed rules for the application of the new organic law in practice,
  • formation of competent working groups in the Ministry of Agriculture which will deal with the formulation of the detailed rules (guidelines relating to the law),
  • working groups to include all important parties active within organic agriculture in Ukraine, including non-governmental organizations and the Ukrainian control and certification organizations for organic agriculture,
  • a unified approach to control and labelling of organic food products in order to avoid discrepancy in the definition of organic products in the EU and in Ukraine,
  • clarification of labelling of organic food products in Ukraine and government support for educational promotion of organic agriculture and organic food products.

Organic catering for the participants of the conference was prepared. They had a chance to taste dishes cooked using only organic ingredients.

Besides, on 30.10-01.11.2013 the exhibition “Organic products in Ukraine” was held in the International Exhibition Centre.
