The event was organized by the Swiss-Ukrainian project “Organic Market Development in Ukraine” and GALEX-AGRO Private Enterprise.

The Organic Field Day was attended by more than 50 representatives of the companies producing organic products. They learnt about special features of the organic crop production at the fields of GALEX-AGRO Private Enterprise situated near Stryieve village of Novohrad-Volynskyi District in Zhytomyr Region.
Besides, the participants visited a milk-processing plant, Organic Milk LLC, which is a branch of GALEX-AGRO Private Enterprise.

Organic Milk LLC’s dairy products were certified according to the organic production requirements. The company will begin commercial organic production soon.

A press-tour for mass-media was organized within the framework of the Organic Field Day. The media representatives were  able to learn more about the specific aspects of organic crops production and get answers to their questions related to the national market development.

The participants of the event were greeted by Oleksandr Yushchenko, General Director of GALEX-AGRO Private Enterprise; Anatolii Dushko, Baranivka Town Mayor; Volodymyr Khimich, First Deputy Head of Baranivka District State Administration; Ruslan Kyryliuk, First Deputy Head of Novohrad-Volynskyi District State Administration; and Anatoliy Kravchenko, Facilitator Arable Crops of the Swiss-Ukrainian project “Organic Market Development in Ukraine”.

Toralf Richter, Sector Expert Arable Crops of the project “Organic Market Development in Ukraine”, informed the participants on the Business Development Fund – a financial instrument used in the framework of the project for supporting Ukrainian organic market operators in implementation of their innovations. It is planned to announce tenders for choosing companies that will be supported by the fund.

Toralf Richter furthermore reported on the launch of the new project “Organic Soy Project in Eastern Europe”. It envisages assistance to the interested producers in growing organic soybeans followed by their sales to the Swiss market.

At the fields of GALEX-AGRO Private Enterprise, modern agricultural equipment was demonstrated to the participants such as routing row cultivator HISALAR (Turkey), equipment for liquid manure Joskin KOMFORT2 18000TS, mechanical sowing machines Great Plains (USA), and coulter harrow with tines (Striegel). Oleksandr Yushchenko, the company’s General Director, and other company specialists informed the visitors on specific features and benefits of machinery application in organic farming, difficulties which an organic farmer could face, and ways to solve them.

The participants of the Organic Field Day showed much interest in the coulter harrow with tines (Striegel) the correct usage of which helps to effectively fight weeds in a mechanical way saving much on herbicides. The harrow can be applied both in organic and in conventional farming.
Oleksii Kachkovskyi, the  VIP Group Private Enterprise Director, and Oleksii Yazykov, the Zhyva Nyva LLC Director, delivered reports on different aspects of the Striegel usage.

Information

Galeks-Agro Private Enterprise was founded and started organic production in 2008. It is a mixed company engaged in arable crops growing and animal husbandry. The enterprise has been certified according to the EU and Swiss Confederation (Bio Suisse) standards. Its total area of organic land is 5,480 ha. Livestock is 1,967 heads.
