The Organic Market Development in Ukraine project is funded by the Swiss Confederation through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

SECO’s Economic Cooperation and Development Division (ECDD) is responsible for planning and implementing economic cooperation and development activities with middle-income developing countries, Eastern European countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States (transition countries) as well as the new Member States of the European Union. It coordinates Switzerland's relations with the World Bank Group, the regional development banks and the economic organisations of the United Nations.

Based on its core competencies SECO focuses on five priority themes that optimise the use of its resources,

  1. Strengthening economic and financial policy
  2. Improving urban infrastructure and utilities
  3. Supporting the private sector and entrepreneurship
  4. Promoting sustainable trade
  5. Fostering climate-friendly economic growth

The overall objective is to promote economically, environmentally and socially sustainable growth that will create new jobs, encourage higher productivity and contribute to reducing poverty and inequalities. This is achieved by integrating partner countries into the global economy and strengthening the competitive position of their domestic economies.

The ECDD focuses its support towards countries that are committed to a serious and effective process of reform. The cross-cutting themes of economic governance and gender equality are also given much weight.

The Swiss Cooperation Office in Kyiv, which is part of the Embassy of Switzerland, represents SECO in Ukraine. It is responsible for planning and implementing the Swiss Cooperation Programme in Ukraine and provides a platform for its partners in Switzerland and Ukraine.
